Martha and I had a fun, busy day today, so I thought I’d share it with you in pictures . . .

In the mornings, Martha walks Judah to school, then hangs out with Amie and picks him up at noon so I can get things done or run errands.  Today we decided to take Amie and go out for coffee on our way to pick Judah up.

I’ve been wanting to try this new coffee shop in our neighborhood, so we walked the half kilometer.  It is so nice inside, with big windows and cozy armchairs, so we found a place to sit while a waiter brought a menu.  We took our time figuring out what to order before he came back.  I ordered a chocolate donut for Amie.  Then . . .

“We don’t have donuts, ma’am.”

“Okay.  How about a channa sandwich for me?”

“Sorry, we don’t have sandwiches, ma’am.”

Hmmm.  Okay fine.  “I’ll just take a cup of coffee then.”

And for the clincher:

“We don’t have coffee, ma’am.  Our machine is broken.”

Okay.  So, needless to say that was a deal-breaker for us.

So we jumped in a auto and headed to the tried-and-true Donut Baker.  But then . . .

“No donuts today, ma’am.”

Thankfully, there are several coffee shops in our neighborhood.  So we tried again.

Third time’s a charm.

It was worth the wait.  And it looks like we’ll be starting out at Barista from now on.

On to pick Judah up from school.

He enjoyed his donut too!

After the kids went down for a nap, Martha and I escaped for some shopping.

A family from a village outside our city invited us all for dinner one night next week.  So Martha and I are having traditional outfits (kurta, baggy pants, and a scarf) made to wear when we go.

We looked in lots of shops off Commercial Street and finally found material we loved.

A stop at the supermarket on our way home for a few groceries.

And a samosa for the road.  Martha is eating South Asian food like a champ . . . the spicy stuff and all.

Back home we took the kiddos and our iced coffee down to the playground (like my new glasses?).

Showing Colleen our purchases.

South Asian fabrics are seriously the best.

Colleen took us to a tailor in our neighborhood to order our outfits.  You can get the fabric and have an entire outfit made for under ten dollars here.  And they’re going to be done by tomorrow night!

Then we took Martha to get her nose pierced.

Just kidding, Wayne and Cathy!!!

We went and had our eyebrows threaded (kind of like waxing, only . . . threading).

We got home for a late dinner of Anju’s amazing dal and chapatti.

And now . . . we’re exhausted.

If you come visit me, I promise you’ll have a day as fun as this one.

🙂
