    last bible study.

But last night, last night was sweet in the hardness.  A sweet gathering of people.  A sweet time of studying the Word together.  Sweet, sweet laughter.  Sweet prayers for our family.  I’m very thankful for this group of people. Anu took it upon himself to make chai for everyone . . . . . . which turned into a kitchen full of guys weighing in on the process After the study, the group helped us celebrate our wedding anniversary, South Asian-style, with jasmine garlands Oh yes, David got to wear one too Here’s to eight years together! John-brother and Ali celebrated ten years this past week! A fun night was…

    monday.

The boys are home safe and sound, and we hit the ground running today: 1.  We started school! David and I sat down last night to have a look at Week One (there is really almost zero prep work . . . everything is planned out for you), then this morning, after swim class, we gathered in the school room for our first day. It was brief and simple and involved mostly reading books aloud, and my heart just melted watching David cuddled in the Reading Corner with our kids. 2.  Priya came back to us after a week off, and boy, am I ever happy! 3.  David had his…

    play date.

One of the hardest things about moving somewhere new is making friends.  You don’t realize how varied and deep your friendships really are, until you leave them all behind, and have to start from scratch in a brand new place.  I think that’s true whether you move to a different state or to a different country. I’m pretty sure that every “foreigner,” no matter how introverted or extroverted, would tell you they’ve struggled with loneliness moving overseas.  You can find people you click with and enjoy one another’s company, but building real relationships again from the ground up simply takes time.  Lots and lots of it. Some weeks I’m so…

    pool fail, terrace fun.

Remember this photo from last April? Well the same scene greeted us this morning when we went for a Skyline swim date with Keli and the kids. But what is life in South Asia about if not learning flexibility, right? So, we had a talk with the kids about disappointment in life, had a talk with ourselves about disappointment in life, and enjoyed hanging out on our friends’ terrace instead.

    rock climbing.

A group of us struck out west of the city for some rock climbing.  Two of my American friends are very experienced and have their own gear.  But this was my first time (besides a couple trips to an inside wall).  I had a blast and hope to go again soon. Our new friends gave plenty of climbing advice from down below.  I finally realized that when they were shouting, “there’s a massive ledge by your right knee,” they meant, ‘there’s a an invisible spot the size of a dime to balance your pinky toe on.’ After a few goes at the bunny slope I was ready for the big…

a few more from the week.

Okay, so I haven’t ventured out of the house with the camera while David’s been gone.  It’s been a fun week with lots of activities … playing outside, shopping, running errands, hanging out with friends. Here’s a few pictures of our around-the-house time: Ramesh and Maria came over this week, and Ramesh cooked his specialty: beef cutlets.  They are basically these little patties (perfect for snacks) made with beef, potatoes and spices.  They are divine. Buddies Wonderful friends who, sadly for us, are moving to Europe next month for Ramesh’s doctoral studies.  We will miss them a ton. Watching “the Daddy movie” Alison gave us this great idea for counting…
