monday.

Hello from the beginning of Moving Week.  Things are crazy around here.  Stress levels are high, mainly mine.  It helped me to go back and read this blog post from another move, and to once again try to embrace rather than deny or defend “Hot mess Julie.”

Thank you so much for all the love.  You all have rejoiced with us, oohed and ahhed over all the tiny details, begged for more photos, and generally made this whole home-buying process way more fun.  So thank you!  Here’s how Judah and I feel about you:

We have paint on the walls! We are so thankful for the painting crews who came and worked hard with David Friday and Saturday.  It’s done!  It looks great!  The living room is an unnamed beige-green that I had matched from a friend’s house.  The dining room is Woodlawn Colonial Gray by Valspar.  The whole house was freshly painted neutral by the sellers, so the bedrooms all look crisp and clean too.

The linen closet and pantry were in pretty rough shape, paint-wise, so my wonderful husband sprayed them with Kilz and gave them two fresh coats of white (he also replaced those ugly brown outlet and switch covers with white covers).

We took the doors of the corner cabinets on either side of the kitchen sink, and David also painted the insides of those cabinets.  I love the open feel.  And there’s nothing nicer than freshly painted closets and cabinets!

Here’s our bathroom.  Yep, you read that right: bathroom, singular.  We’ve only got one.  It hasn’t been updated at all so we’re thankful for neutral tiles (hey, we’re very aware with a 1950’s house we could have a pink bathroom).

See? That’s not so bad.  I actually kind of like the floor.

The big project of today was the removal of old ductwork and our furnace.  Of course we hired professionals for this job.  So glad to get that nasty stuff out from beneath our house.  The company will spend most of this week replacing it all, which is why our official moving day isn’t until Saturday . . .

. . . however, in an effort to keep from having to box the contents of our entire house, we’re trying to move loads over throughout the week.  I came over yesterday evening and cleaned all three bedrooms top to bottom.  There’s something very soothing about cleaning all by oneself in a completely empty house.  Especially one’s own completely empty house.

Another view of the living room. I will really be glad to get those falling-apart, wood-colored blinds off the windows. My mom and I are cooking up a scheme for a window treatment that I think will be perfect.  More on that later.

The kids and I stopped by to visit David this morning and scope out the yard some more.

Our next-door neighbor has already given David a tour of all the poison oak. Yikes.

And finally, here’s a shot of our little abode from across the street.  It’s hard to tell but that dirt area in the front right is actually extra parking.  It’s like the sellers knew we were church planters and need those two spots.
