holidays

halloween 2019.

Gabe has struggled with allergies for years, so we took him to an ENT this fall, and they recommended that he get tested. On Halloween morning, of all mornings, we went for his skin test. Not a fun start to one of his favorite holidays.

It was a little traumatic, and he had a couple pretty intense reactions, so they stopped the testing, gave him Benadryl, and told me that they’d have to do the rest through bloodwork.

The huge bump on his back is from Bermuda grass. Go figure. He felt pretty miserable — his eyes even got all red and puffy.

We went yesterday for his blood work (also not a fun experience), so should hear something soon about how to proceed.

Thankfully by last Thursday evening he felt much better and ready for trick-or-treating.

Amie, Gabe and Noah love decorating their bedrooms for Halloween. In fact, they start asking me in September if they can decorate. I told them they could a week before, and came home from running errands to find this on the front door (courtesy of Noah). Very foreboding.

We enjoyed having the boys’ birth mom, Christi and her boyfriend John hang out with us Halloween evening. Judah: Percy Jackson, Noah: Black Panther, Gabe: Spiderman, and Amie: Laura Ingalls.

A big storm was forecast from 6-7pm, so we raced against the weather to get some trick-or-treating in.

It hit just as predicted. One moment crowds were happily milling around, standing in line for candy, and the next it was like we were in a gale — with winds, rain, and loud thunder. David and Judah laughed that despite all the spooky costumes and houses, the moment a storm hit, people were screaming and running every which way, with make-up running and bits of costumes flying off.

We headed home to get dry and play some carpet ball.

It was certainly a memorable Halloween!
