motherhood,  s. asia,  the kids

doctor’s visit.

Today I bit the bullet and took both kids for their (shamefully overdue) well-visits and immunizations.  To a part of town I never go.  In an auto.  At lunchtime.

I really, really procrastinate on stuff like this that intimidates me, but I always learn that the best thing to do is face my fears . . . it’s never as bad as I expect.

Ams got her 18-month and 2-year shots, which includes typhoid because, well, we live in South Asia.  She shed a few tears, then bounced back and reached for the promised Skittles (thank you, Watershed Fellowship!!).

Judah was next, and he kicked and screamed bloody murder.  It took three of us to hold him down so the shots could be administered, and the doctor definitely pulled out a hanky and mopped his own face afterward.  Reminds me of a similar story Linda tells about David at that age.

When we emerged from the tiny office, the entire waiting room was staring at us.  But wait.  They stare at us anyway.  So it’s all good.

Judah bounded back too, and both kids are good as new.  Their pediatrician reminded me that he hasn’t had to see us in a year, and I am deeply grateful for healthy, growing children.

Stats:

Judah’s height: 46 inches (up from 43 inches a year ago)
Judah’s weight: 42 lbs (up from 35 lbs a year ago)

Amelie’s height: 38 in. (up from 34 in.)
Amelie’s weight: 32 lbs (up from 26 lbs)

Our big girl.  Lilly let her serve the tea yesterday.
