    an exciting day.

It’s an exciting day in our house . . . Our first homeschooling curriculum package arrived! I really have no idea how it got here so fast, since I ordered it less than two weeks ago . . . but I’m not complaining. I should back up a bit . . . the last time I posted about homeschooling, I don’t think I was anywhere near deciding on a curriculum.  Two things made me choose Sonlight. 1.  I just wasn’t doing a good job of piecing together a plan for Judah on my own.  I mentioned before that in the busyness of our lives right now, homeschool-preschool was getting pushed…

things that make me happy right now: homeschooling.

A week of my favorite things . . .  Hmmm. Okay, let’s be honest, maybe a better title for this post is: “Things that make me happy right now: the idea of homeschooling.” I am growing, more and more, to love the idea of homeschooling, and to feel certain that it’s the right thing for our family in this season. So . . . I’m having a little trouble managing all the priorities in my life just now.  But I’m enjoying the effort—in some ways, being more busy, not less, is a great motivator for me.  And at least they’re fun priorities. Homeschooling typically seems to be first to go. …

    school.

It is January second of a brand new year.  The Christmas tree is packed away and the new toys organized and the last of the endless sweets are finally disappearing. With the holidays over, I find myself happy to settle into the rhythms of ordinary life, and to look ahead to all that this new year will hold. The biggest change, now that our new routine is falling into place, is that Judah is home with us in the mornings.  We had every intention of finding a new preschool in our new neighborhood.  We just wanted to give him a break for November and December, time to adjust to yet…

    we’re moving!, part three.

How far is it from where you live now and from your friends?” Depending on traffic, our new home is a twenty to thirty minute drive (shorter by auto rickshaw) from where we live now.  And our friends, John, Alison, Joshua and Caleb, just signed a lease on an apartment downtown too.  They will be living less than a mile away from us, in a different neighborhood. John and Alison are nurses, and have joined our team to do community health training in villages, but are also excited about being apart of a city church plant as a family and living in the community where we will worship. One fun…

    parent-teacher day.

I can’t believe it’s already been eight months since Judah started preschool.  Saturday morning we had a parent-teacher meeting, and I was so thankful that I felt up to going.  We learned what Judah and his classmates have been up to lately, talked to his teachers, and met other parents.  Amie ate handfuls of candy and had a blast. Judah loves his school (though he rarely admits it), and it’s obvious his teachers really care for the kids.  They do a great job of making learning hands-on and creative. It’s so fun for us when Judah comes home able to identify new letters and shapes and can introduce himself in another…
