friday.
Our staycation is finished and it was wonderful. Today we’re headed to the mountains for two back-to-back mission agency conferences. I have decided to take this opportunity for a self-imposed internet break. Much love to you all and we’ll be back in 10 days!

birthday party.
Amelie’s birthday isn’t until the 10th, but we’ll be out of town next week, so we celebrated yesterday at our family’s 4th of July get together. We took the kids to Wal-Mart beforehand and let Ams pick out her own party supplies (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), party favors, and candles. I think she loved the process as much as her party. Owen and David took care of blowing up balloons Thanks Cici for frosting the cupcakes! I have to say here that on Amie’s second birthday, I was sick in bed and Martha made the cupcakes. I’m inexpressibly thankful that Martha was in South Asia with us last year. I’m also…

staycation.
In just under four weeks we’ve made five trips and logged 3,000 miles. And we are tired. So this week we’re having a staycation (wait, does it count as a staycation when it’s not your own house?). Some friends in Columbia graciously offered their home–and stocked their fridge and pantry for us–while they are out of town, and it is the perfect staycation house. Lots of space, toys for the kids, a screened porch that I’m in love with, and a pool. We’re holing up here all week, and if you should have heard from me by now and haven’t, just know we’ll get back on our a-game soon. Life…

zoo!
My cousin’s wife, Liz, is one of my close friends; we lived about a mile apart in Lexington for awhile. She grew up in Indonesia, and has been such a great friend and encouragement to me in this whole adventure of living overseas. We met up at the zoo with all the kiddos this morning and had such a great time. I know zoo posts can get a little repetitive (how many pics of your kids looking at animals can you really take?), but I had to document our first visit in two years. I love this zoo. Sweet Miss Eliana, who is in-between Judah and Ams in age Judah…

this week.
We are spending this week with a couple of David’s college roommates. We met up in Durham at Nick and Lindsay’s house. Joshua flew in from CA, though sadly his wife, Sarah, and son, Jacob couldn’t be with him on this trip. We had two restful days in bright, muggy NC, exploring new playgrounds, coloring with sidewalk chalk, and cooking dinner together, before bringing Joshua back to SC with us for a visit. He and David leave first thing tomorrow morning to rejoin the Dentels for Phil’s wedding weekend in Atlanta. The fifth of the Palmetto house guys, John Leaf, is now living with his family in Southeast Asia. I…

happy father’s day.
I’m grateful for all the wonderful fathers in my life. I’m missing my grandfather. And I’m happy to be with my dad today.
