our house

bedroom update (by amie).

Hello! This is my bedroom update. Over the summer I’ve been changing my room from a tween room to a teen room. I want it to be a cozy place for me to have alone time, and also a fun place to have friends over and chill.

I call myself a plant nerd and you can tell by these pictures. I have 28 houseplants in my room! Kinda crazy.

I bought two strands of twinkle lights to hang in my room, I like their cozy vibe.

I still have 3 roommates (pets) with me: Max and Oscar, my guinea pigs, and Albus, my bearded dragon! Yesterday morning I woke up suddenly to a loud, terrifying noise. I thought it was a dying guinea pig. Turns out, Albus hadn’t yet eaten one of the crickets I gave him. It was hiding and mourning its captivity. There’s never a dull moment with our pets!

My art cart is always a bit messy but it shows how much I love art.

I love my bookshelf because it used to be my Mom’s when she was a girl so it is special. I put all my shade-loving plants on it.  Thank you, Nina and Mum Mum, for sharing plant clippings with me! There’s an Anne of Green Gables print hanging on the left side, and to the right of my lamp is a piece of art from South Sudan that my dad’s friend sent me.

I got the idea of planting small plants in drawers from one of my favorite home designing books, Jungalow, by Justina Blakeney. Isn’t it cute?! Also those drawers are from India.

The shelf above my dresser is one of my favorite things in my room. I call it my “plant shelf”. I have to confess I stole the fiddle leaf fig from my Mom, but she said she liked it there and I was thrilled! At the top left corner is my propagating jar I made from Pinterest. I’ve been practicing making hangers for plants to save myself money.

I also love putting plants in mugs. It’s so cute. I like going to thrift stores and yard sales and finding little knick-knacks for my room. The giraffe on the top shelf is from a yard sale, and so is the basket on the right end of my dresser.

I love my desk and easel. They are perfect for painting, which is my favorite hobby. I also use my desk for school work and lots of art projects. I’m lucky because my room originally used to be a sun room, so I get lots of natural light and succulents thrive on my window sill or desk.

I bought the plant poster from a plant shop by our church called Gardener’s Outpost. It describes me! Best $10 dollars I’ve spent.

These two plant books are my main source of learning about plants. Also the Happy House Plant book has paintings in it so I’ll copy them.

My room brings me lots of joy and inspiration, I love it so much!
