    well visits.

We had our six and four-year-old well visits last week. Wait. Can you believe I have a six-year-old? And a four-year-old? I cannot. Judah is in the 95th percentile for height (no surprise there) and Amie is in the 85th. Both are around 75th for weight. Somehow these details seemed much more important when they were infants. If you’re a parent you may remember that the four-year-old well appointment is particularly rough (the worst, in my opinion), because they get their boosters. They’re old enough to know exactly what’s coming but not to understand why it has to happen. Amie got four shots and a finger prick. She screamed. She…

    judah turns six.

On Sunday we celebrated a new church and our boy’s sixth birthday. It was a big day! Judah sneaked in my bedroom first thing and woke me up by asking, “Mommy, am I six now?” To which I sleepily answered, “Yes! You are buddy!” And he said, “But my pj’s still fit!” He ate his favorite “color circle cereal” for breakfast (Fruit Loops) and got to open one present: a Star Wars toy set that David picked out on Amazon, and exclaimed, “This is the best birthday ever!!!” We had an incredibly sweet first worship service at Columbia Presbyterian Church. I was overwhelmed by the love, joy, and answered prayer…

a little trip to the e.r.

Like I said Judah and Amie and I had differing degrees of colds and sinus trouble all week.  Yesterday Judah obviously wasn’t himself, a bit droopy and tired all day with an increasing cough.  In the evening he started wheezing, which I took note of, but it’s happened before when he has bronchitis. He grew more agitated throughout the evening, and said his chest hurt, but it still appeared more like discomfort than like anything urgent.  I gave him a steamy hot shower before bed, tried to put him down in his room, but he was whimpering and short of breath.  So he laid on the couch while Linda and…

    farmer’s market, by judah.

Judah got what he calls a “grown-up camera” for Christmas (a.k.a. our old point-and-shoot) and he couldn’t be more excited.  He took it along to the Farmer’s Market yesterday and I promised him I’d make a blog post. It’s fun seeing the world through Judah’s eyes!

    sunday.

In a little over twenty-four hours, I will drive to pick David up from the Philadelphia airport.  I can’t believe we’ve almost made it! The past twelve days didn’t exactly go the way I expected . . . on day four I got sick, and one of the three of us has been sick ever since.  But, that’s life.  And I feel well rested, thanks to lots of help from Steve and Linda.  Now I’m ready to welcome my husband back and help him to rest. This week Judah and Amie became friends with two little boys who live next door to the Gentino’s.  They are the first friends Judah…

    judah.

I feel blessed to be spending today, my boy’s fifth birthday, in the town where he was born.  It brings back lots of memories.  I’ve never done a blog post birth story for my kids, so my blog is incomplete. Well, there’s no time like the present! We moved here to Lititz in July, 2007, when I was seven months pregnant.  We’d both just quit our jobs, David had traveled with the youth group all summer, and we were tired.  My parents moved us and our possessions up here in a U-Haul all in one weekend.  At the end of which, the seventh Harry Potter book came straight to my…

    first swim class, check.

Today we finished our first month of swim class.  Well, technically there’s two more days to go, but David and Judah are going out of town for the weekend (more on that later), so today was Judah’s last day. Overall, it’s been a good experience.  Six mornings a week felt like a huge time commitment at first, but it’s not a big deal if we miss a day here and there, so it’s turned out to be fine. I’d say Judah really enjoyed the class about sixty percent of the time.  Okay, maybe the whole month was a little bit of an emotional roller coaster for him and Joshua.  It…

    swimming lessons.

Judah is doing three weeks of swimming lessons at a school a few blocks down the street, so the past couple of days we’ve been trying to get ourselves out the door for class at 8:00 a.m. He’s only had two classes so far, so we’re still getting adjusted.  He actually hates it . . . there have been lots of tears and clinging to Mommy. Oh how thankful I am for a four-year-old’s ability to actually tell you what’s wrong!  It’s a brand new season of life, folks!  Judah said he likes the pool, but he doesn’t like his teachers.  Honestly, I don’t blame him–two of the swimming coaches…

    this guy.

He’s looking less and less like a baby–or even a toddler–with each passing day.  He’s tall and thin and his face is losing it’s chubbiness.  He’s growing into a knobby-kneed little boy.  And he’s perfect. Naps are few and far between, and I’m fine with that.  Whenever he does fall asleep in the afternoon, it’s certain to be a late night.  But sometimes, during his quiet hour-and-a-half on my bed, surrounded by piles of toys (each one meticulously chosen), he’ll pass out. I love him so much it hurts. I’m full of wonder at how God is working in his heart.  Here there are so many opportunities to share what…
