    this week.

We’ve been playing with their magnetic dolls every morning.  Among other things, we took Maggie Leigh to the hospital to have her baby, then she joined us for a snowball fight and a pizza lunch at Joey’s house. Summer is in full swing, and it’s hot here, people.  Today it is 34 degrees C (93 F), which I know is nothing compared to August in South Carolina, but, for some reason, it’s it’s own kind of terrible.  A dry, scorching, dust-in-your-eyes kind of heat, that leaves me feeling sluggish from about 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  May is the hottest month here, after which, according to Priya, it becomes “very,…

    just another walk home.

After playing at the park, the six of us walked the half-mile to John and Alison’s flat for lunch. I hate how my hands seem to permanently smell like bleach.  But you know, I’ll take smelly hands and thirty minutes of work for the fresh and delicious and inexpensive (and local!) produce we get here.  It may not look as pretty, but it tastes so much better.  And this counter-full cost us maybe two bucks.

    our furry friends.

We have some furry friends that live on our bedroom balcony.  Just below them and a little out of the line of fire is our clothes-drying rack. There are few things I hate more than bats.  I mean, have you seen a bat up close? Look at those beady little eyes.  Look at that outstretched arm and those human fingers.  Look at their fur. Bats are so creepy.  They know things. David tried hitting at them with a stick to make them move and was chased ferociously back into the house. I don’t think either of us is brave enough to continue the fight, so we have made uneasy peace…
