friday.
Well friends, we’ve made it to the end of The Week I Didn’t Think I’d Survive. Seriously. I don’t know what the deal was but it was such a hard week for me. I continually reminded myself I’ve actually moved overseas, and what’s more I’ve made a second move while living overseas, both of which were about one hundred times harder than this move.
But somehow that didn’t help me. I still stressed and complained all week long. It helped for a friend to say to me, “Look, moving is just stressful. Period. Give yourself a break.”
So. God is faithful. We have a lot of amazing family and friends. I’m tired. But we’ve almost made it.
This is the first move where we’ve been able to take loads of things over and unpack them throughout the week. Since our HVAC was in repair, it was very, very hot in the house, mind you. But we sweated it out and it was worth it.
We did take an Independence Day break last night and headed downtown for dinner at Five Guys (how patriotic of us), then met up with my parents at the Tapp’s Art Center. It was actually my first time seeing the space and I loved it. It was fun meeting a couple of the people David has been interacting with, see some art work, and begin to visualize the space where our church will meet.
My dad picked up Judah and Amie after lunch today for a sleep over at Nina and Papa’s house. Both kids are very excited about coming home to their new bedroom tomorrow. I’m excited to not have to spend my time packing instead of paying attention to my kids.
My dad came back and we both got to work: I packed and he took down the kids’ bunk bed (no small feat if you know anything about Ikea furniture).
Of course if I happen to be with my parents pretty much any time during the afternoon, it becomes tea time. I love that.
No more beds. I found two roaches while packing the kids’ room. I hate roaches. One of the curses of life in the south. Why do they love old houses in particular?
After the kids’ room, I worked on packing up the kitchen.
And took the opportunity to do a little deep cleaning (why do I never wash our trash can? It looks amazingly better for such a small amount of effort).
Dad and I took a load to the new house and David joined us after work. My Dad got the bunk beds set up and I worked on unpacking the kitchen.
David and I took another load this evening and finished up at around 9:00 tonight. I’m happy to announce that the kitchen is completely finished! The kids’ beds are made up and ready.
Also, our HVAC is working! It was a huge project replacing all the ductwork and the furnace. My allergy-prone-self is especially thankful for cleaned air ducts.
So thankful for everyone’s help. However, the Hero Of The Day award goes to our friend Ben Parker, who offered to spend his day off doing electrical work for us. In an un-air-conditioned house. I feel so humbled and grateful. Those Parkers are good people.
Tomorrow we move!
