charleston weekend.

We visited a church in North Charleston this morning, and some friends were so generous to offer their condo to make it a real weekend getaway.

it was a cold, gray weekend, but we didn’t mind; the kids loved this amazing playground in Isle of Palms near the condo (do you like Amie’s new default photo face? she does it to annoy her parents)

spinning, playground style

we did the Charleston tourist thing on Saturday morning … I never get tired of this city

for Judah and Amie’s first trip to Charleston, we did all our favorite things: walk and eat

happy kids in a candy store; I cried a little on the inside when they choose gummy worms and Reese’s cups over fresh-made pralines and fudge

headed to the park to eat our candy

ahhh yes, chocolate peanut butter fudge and this view

happy to stop for lunch

the kids were enamored by Bubba Gump’s, where their lunch arrived in a boat

there was lots of relaxing and football watching and Disney Channel watching and reading at the condo

I may or may not have read two books in their entirety this weekend

our girl was worn out from a lovely weekend

It’s a bit surreal to take a trip with two bonafide preschoolers; to be able to break our routine for late night dinners out and missed naps, to all collectively sleep in ’til 8 a.m., to spend a morning in Charleston with no diaper bags or stroller or Ergo carrier or huge melt-downs.  Yes, I love this season.
