  the good life. Friday, June 10, 2011   Some friends are so generous to give us a long weekend in their beach house for the third year in a row.  We arrived yesterday with Kenny, Shari and Owen, and are now living the good life.

  how i’m doing. Wednesday, June 1, 2011   I am sitting in the stillness of a steamy South Carolina summer afternoon.  The house is napping.  Kenny is working.  David’s out to lunch with a friend.  All I can hear are the whir of the air conditioning and birdsong from outside the window.  That’s it.  And I’m here on the sofa in the peace of a living room I’ve lived in for two different seasons of my life, drinking fresh-made hot coffee and drinking in the comfort of furniture and ceiling fans and toys that are familiar. Tomorrow it will be three weeks that we’ve been home, in the U.S. …

  catching up. Wednesday, June 1, 2011   Of course the best part about being home is spending time with friends and family.  It is comforting and encouraging to once again be with people who know and love us, to let our guards down, to laugh and joke and vent and cry together.  Of course it is hard to squeeze all of this into five short weeks and life is a little crazy right now, but we are grateful even for the brief hugs and meals and text messages.  Thanks to everyone for making us feel so very loved.   We spent our Memorial Day evening with the Ketchersides.  Joey…
