sick.
I have been sick for a week-and-a-half now. Thankfully the anemia is gone, but I’ve gotten two separate, violent stomach bugs and now I have a sinus infection. Is it getting kind of old, hearing about my health? It’s getting old writing about it. All of this illness leaves David and I at a loss. Right when I started to get out and about, to want to wear something other than sweatpants all day, to get a spring in my step, I got hit hard. We got hit hard—because it affects the whole family of course. It has to be my immune system. I am taking endless vitamins and supplements and drinking…

sunday swim.
Last Sunday David and the kids enjoyed a (cold!) swim with some friends from church. Thanks, Colleen-aunty for the awesome pictures!

meeting baby ada.
Sweet baby Ada was born Wednesday, September 7 (yes, that is Maggie, at home, up and dressed, the day after delivering). Maggie probably begs to differ, but I kind of feel like we all labored together to bring baby Ada into the world this week (we were certainly all praying and worrying and anticipating together!) Praise God for a safe delivery and for this precious new life. She is perfect!

cupcakes.
We made my-and-Martha’s specialty: dark chocolate and peanut butter cupcakes. Because they are in high demand now, I plan to post the recipe soon. Judah had several friends drop by throughout the afternoon and help make his birthday special. Later on, we took cupcakes over to the Iversons’ to meet the newest member of our team.

out with daddy.
Our A-block elevator Racing to the gates! Amelie on the run In case you are wondering, David confirmed that Judah actually did touch that mattress. Can anyone guess what the sign at the top of this photo is for? Thankfully he didn’t tell me whether they touched these … Waiting for traffic to pass Typical neighborhood shops Walking home from work Home sweet home. It feels strange to us, but it is typical to have guards for houses and apartments here. I do have to say it makes me feel safer when David’s traveling. On the other side of this glorious greenery is my friend Deepakshi’s flat. I loved her…

mediterranean cafe.
Oh this restaurant was divine. Today was our first time trying it out, and we loved the breezy outdoor seating and the view. But the food was best of all. Best hummus we’ve ever tasted. It was hard not to pull an Amie and lick the bowl after it was gone. Crispy falafel with two kinds of dipping sauce. We got a chicken dish and a shrimp dish too, but were so busy eating that we forgot to take pictures. Warm chocolate mud cake. And a latte to top it all off. A happy camper. This was my first trip out of our neighborhood (other than doctor’s visits) in over…

holiday hike.
God has been so good to us this week. We had a horrible day Tuesday with the car accident, and it left both David and I so discouraged. But Wednesday was a holiday, and David’s friend Arvind called to see if they could go hiking outside the city. Then today our friend Maria offered to babysit the kids for the afternoon so David and I could go out for a leisurely lunch. So we are ending the week refreshed and encouraged and so thankful for our friends.

a fine balance.
It’s sobering to write about a second car accident in a single month. Today I drove to a small grocery store fifteen minutes from our house. It’s on a corner of a busy intersection. I pass through the green light and pause on the other side, turn signal on, waiting to cross traffic into a parking space. As one opens, I look behind me, and just begin to turn the wheel when – WHAM! I see a flash of a sari and hear a woman scream. She had tried to speed around me to the right, clipped my car, and went sprawling onto the pavement. I quickly park to the…
