night on the town.
It’s hard to believe my mom leaves tomorrow night. These two weeks have flown by. I have had a sinus infection the entire time she has been here . . . and, besides enjoying her company, I’ve been so grateful for her help with the kids and the apartment and for the extra naps I’ve gotten. We spent most of our time close to home, but thankfully I felt well enough that we still got to do some fun things and show her around the city a bit. Last night the five of us piled in an auto rickshaw and rode to this amazing mall downtown. I have really never…

south asian outfits.
This post is especially for Rachel C., who’s been asking for a picture of the outfits Martha and I had made. I am so upset I never got a photo of Martha’s because she looked awesome. Rachel, you will have to make her try it on next time she’s home from school. My outfit is a salwar kameez suit. The fabric or ready made tunic, salwar (baggy pants) and dupatta (scarf) are purchased together in a matching set. This outfit and the saree are the two traditional South Asian forms of dress here. saturday morning dosas.
This morning we walked down the street for breakfast with our pastor’s wife and kids. Mom enjoyed her first masala dosa, and Judah and Amie loved introducing her to some of their favorite people in South Asia.

produce.
I’ve been meaning to show you our produce-bleaching process. 15 minutes in bleach/purified water. 15 minutes rinse in purified water. And, voila! Edible fruits and veggies. I hate how my hands seem to permanently smell like bleach. But you know, I’ll take smelly hands and thirty minutes of work for the fresh and delicious and inexpensive (and local!) produce we get here. It may not look as pretty, but it tastes so much better. And this counter-full cost us maybe two bucks.
