two weeks.
We made it through Week Two and the first post-placement visit from our social worker! She’s been so supportive through this process, and had encouraging things to say about how well the boys are doing. We think she’s right! In the last couple of days the scales seem to be tipping in our favor, and I believe the good moments now outweigh the bad ones. Not bad for just two weeks in! In addition, David gave me 5 hours to myself yesterday afternoon, so I feel like a new woman! Want to know how I spent them? Shopping (work-out clothes for me, summer clothes for J and A, and of…

what we’ve been up to.
Hello friends! Well our year started with a flurry on January 1st and the busyness has swept us along all the way to now. I remember taking a deep breath at the start of 2015, looking down the calendar at months of David’s speaking engagements, travel for mission conferences, CPC new members’ class, all in addition to homeschooling and normal church ministry and saying, “After the Easter service things will settle down.” Well four days after Easter I can’t say that the dust has settled yet, but aside from some fierce, family-wide pollen allergies, we’re all holding up! We’re thankful for a full, productive winter and love the signs of…

sunday.
Linda’s cousin Donna and her husband Jim visited from Virginia this weekend and joined us at CPC Sunday morning. Jim is an Anglican rector, and David and John thoroughly enjoyed discussing theology around the campfire with him Sunday night.

saturday.
Happy 2015, friends! I figured a new year called for a blog facelift, so here you have it. We had a wonderfully restful Christmas and now I can’t believe real life resumes on Monday. The four of us ventured out to the Farmer’s Market late this morning and walked the rest of the way down Main Street to the state house. Our walk was cut short by a cold drizzle so we hurried back for some lunch: tomato bisque soup from the Oak Table, Belgian waffles from the waffle food truck, and we topped it all off with a bag of Cromer’s kettle corn. With numb fingers and toes we…

day 26: the zoo.
This weekend Purposeful Simplicity was spending a leisurely day at the zoo with our friends. [p.s. Amie has never in her life had so many girl friends and she’s soaking it up.] ——————-

day 5: new neighbors.
Welcome to 31 Days of Purposeful Simplicity! Because this is my blog and I can do what I want, I’m going to use Sundays this month for posts about our family. We have some new neighbors! Two weeks ago David’s parents, Steve and Linda, moved from Lancaster, PA, to a house in our neighborhood. We are beyond thrilled to have them close by. They’ve jumped right into life in Columbia and life in our church, and they’re helping us see our city with new eyes. My in-laws are already influencing me to live the simple life I want: spending time with family, slowing down to putter around my yard, and…
