settling.
Every Saturday David helps me with a few “settling in” projects–fixing furniture and lamps broken from shipping, hanging pictures, organizing. Here are some of our latest projects . . . . . . of course there are other corners of our house that I refuse to photograph because they’re still disaster areas. But we’re getting there, little by little.

this week.
I’m sorry things have been slow on the blog lately. Since we got home on Thursday, I’ve pretty much holed up at home, seeing and talking to no one. This last trip and sickness laid me low. I haven’t slept and laid around in sweats and stared blankly ahead so much in a long time. But I think my body is saying, “Okay. You’re done with your traveling life (which lasted, more or less, for nine months, people!!!). Now you need to rest.” And, thanks to my counselor and nutritionist, I’m learning to actually listen to my body. So, I’ve rested. And it’s been blissful. David was amazing all weekend…

shefali’s birthday party.
We can’t go to South Asia, so it seems South Asia has come to us . . .

our next chapter: the story.
This was the whirlwind that was Summer, 2012: we came home from South Asia in June, and then officially said good-bye to our life there in September, when we’d heard the doctors’ report about my allergies. David flew back to pack up our apartment and ship our things, and all the while our heads were reeling from this finality, this ending of a story that seemed to have only just begun. (packing up our south asia home) In those bewildering weeks, as we grappled with the sudden ending of one life and tried to focus on getting me healthy, we asked every day, multiple times a day, “God . .…

our week and our news.
Thanks for praying for us this week! God answered your prayers, and so much more. He kept our kids safe, and He used my parents and Shari to serve us by taking care of them. David and I went to Atlanta on Tuesday morning nervous, hopeful, excited. And the week proved to be one of the sweetest weeks of our marriage. I’m not exaggerating. We had people who’ve been in ministry for years speak into our life and help us evaluate our gifts, strengths, and weaknesses. They were some of the most loving, encouraging, grace-filled folks I’ve been around. I think I cried at least once every day, but they…

photo session with sara parker.
Our wonderful friend and neighbor, Sara Parker, is a photographer and gave us the gift of a mini shoot when we came home from South Asia. We had the photo shoot a couple weeks ago and Sara gets huge cool points for knowing the location we’d be most excited about: the abandoned mental health hospital on Bull Street, just a couple miles from our house. Apparently every college student in Columbia but myself sneaked into those buildings at some point . . . that place is so creepy. It is a whole abandoned village back there, and is without a doubt the coolest place ever for a photo shoot. I’d…

wooden wine stoppers.
My dad has been at work in his wood shop making some gorgeous wine stoppers, so I had to post a few photos. He’s beginning to sell them, and I think they’d make fantastic host or wedding gifts . . . or any occasion, for that matter!

family time.
Owen and Oliver stayed with us for a couple days, and a grand time was had by all. Here are a few highlights: After-nap snuggles (and photography) Enjoying a warm Sunday afternoon (notice that David is putting up my clothesline! Maybe wishful thinking on my part that it will be spring soon…) Preparation for Superbowl pizza night Watching the game (I know, I know, we’re the lame people without a television; thankfully Oliver doesn’t mind) Preppy Spiderman Snack time at the river The Fab Four Oliver was a little worn out from all the fun and made himself a bed on the floor Missing Mommy and Daddy Time for some Avengers…
