Judah started preschool today.
Are you shocked?
I kind of am.
It is something David and I talked about back before we moved here … like, “Oh, it would be so wonderful if we could find a preschool for Judah,” but I never thought we’d find one so fast, and I certainly never thought he’d start this month.
But here we are, with Day One behind us, and to me this is a beautiful story of the how God is providing for our boy here in this country.
Judah had a terrific first day. He waved good-bye enthusiastically when we dropped him off at nine this morning, and when I walked back to get him at noon, he ran to me and said, “Hey Mommy, I had fun at school with my teachers!”
Today he sponge-painted and played with toys and puzzles and a ball. Tomorrow is a holiday, so he’ll go back on Monday, then have a four day week next week before Christmas break. Typically he’ll go five mornings a week from nine to twelve, and work on letters and numbers and other developmental activities. The school is a South Asian Montessori school about a half-mile from our apartment. All of the instruction is in English, and we were so impressed with the teachers when we had our tour. They were very engaging with both our kids and were warm and nurturing.
One of our concerns this month has been for Judah and the lack of opportunities for him to get much exercise in a little apartment in this huge, bustling city with no sidewalks to speak of. We love our playground, but there isn’t a lot of space to run and jump and just be an active little boy. We have sensed his pent-up frustration and restlessness.
So God provided this option through the suggestion of some of our neighbors (we learned that most children age two and up go to preschool here), and the rest has fallen into place so amazingly fast we can hardly believe it. We are so, so thankful for this unexpected chance for Judah to have fun and make friends and get to know our new culture.
