    ducks.

Steve got the grandkids ducks for Labor Day weekend from the farm auction.  Judah and Ilan are captivated, but Amie and Lina are obsessed.  The ducks are called Maximus and Phillipe (cool points if you can figure out where those names come from).

    this and that.

cuddles with uncle Joe full disclosure: I made David re-take this pic while I sucked in my gut.  But Linda said if she has to be on the blog gnawing an ear of corn, I have to be on the blog with my real tummy. could this yard be any more gorgeous??? i know i know, she’s three now and still has her “baby.”  Yet another eating-my-words aspect of motherhood that keeps me humble. pre-dinner card game my reading stack for the month this takes frugality to a whole new level.  Yes, it was done on purpose. breakfast faces a boy after my own heart while Joe’s in town, Linda…

    birthday party.

Amelie’s birthday isn’t until the 10th, but we’ll be out of town next week, so we celebrated yesterday at our family’s 4th of July get together.  We took the kids to Wal-Mart beforehand and let Ams pick out her own party supplies (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), party favors, and candles.  I think she loved the process as much as her party. Owen and David took care of blowing up balloons Thanks Cici for frosting the cupcakes!  I have to say here that on Amie’s second birthday, I was sick in bed and Martha made the cupcakes.  I’m inexpressibly thankful that Martha was in South Asia with us last year.  I’m also…

    zoo!

My cousin’s wife, Liz, is one of my close friends; we lived about a mile apart in Lexington for awhile. She grew up in Indonesia, and has been such a great friend and encouragement to me in this whole adventure of living overseas.  We met up at the zoo with all the kiddos this morning and had such a great time. I know zoo posts can get a little repetitive (how many pics of your kids looking at animals can you really take?), but I had to document our first visit in two years.  I love this zoo. Sweet Miss Eliana, who is in-between Judah and Ams in age Judah…

    the pour.

My brother Kenny is expanding his recording studio this summer, and yesterday morning was the big cement pour (is that the right way to say it?).  Shari’s dad has a construction company, and came down from PA to help. Call us nerds, but the whole family woke up at six to get Dunkin’ Donuts and show up at Kenny and Shari’s in time to watch.  David got Judah a book on concrete mixers from the library this week so he would know what was going on.  It was a regular field trip!
