first swim class, check.

Today we finished our first month of swim class.  Well, technically there’s two more days to go, but David and Judah are going out of town for the weekend (more on that later), so today was Judah’s last day.

Overall, it’s been a good experience.  Six mornings a week felt like a huge time commitment at first, but it’s not a big deal if we miss a day here and there, so it’s turned out to be fine.

I’d say Judah really enjoyed the class about sixty percent of the time.  Okay, maybe the whole month was a little bit of an emotional roller coaster for him and Joshua.  It seemed like every day, one of them was having a rough time!

Did Judah learn to swim this month?  No.  Did he make any progress in learning to swim?  Hmmm, I think so.  He’s so close, if he’d just figure out how to propel himself forward, he’d be good to go.

And we realized the boys really did toughen up with their swim teachers.  It’s good for them to see that their coaches do care about them . . . they just express it in a different way (or in some cases, in no way).

Today was a hard day for Judah.  He did not want to be in the water.  He did not want to jump or paddle with his kickboard or be thrown in by his teacher.

Joshua was a rock star though, and loved jumping and swimming with the big kids.

David and I felt the class was enough of a success that I signed him up for a second month, which starts on Monday.  We haven’t actually broken the news to Judah, but here’s hoping it will go over okay.

Our friend Charis is spending the day with us.  As I write this post, she and Amie are playing “ballerina” and dancing around the school room.  It’s nice to have another girl around!

And this sober boy is glad for a long-weekend break from swimming class and a chance to ride on a “choo-choo train” with Daddy tonight!
